ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT THE FAMILY THAT PRAYS TOGETHER, STAYS  TOGETHER.

VALIDITY

The Bible never separates righteousness from justice.  It never points us to the two issues and says, “Choose one or the other.”  It assumes that genuine righteousness in the heart will lead to tangible justice in the community

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK:

As we embark upon a brand new year we will also have to deal with a brand new set of problems and concerns. As you have heard much discussion concerning the USA and world economy which results in difficult credit, large number of foreclosures, loss of jobs, poor return on savings accounts and investments.  Nevertheless, I believe this could be a plus for Christians who are prepared.  For this reason I urge you to get your financial house in order, by paying off as many bills as possible and developing the habit of saving money.  It is also a time for us to study the biblical promises to see what God has in store for us, and to do those things that prepare us to receive and manage the gifts and blessings that God has for us. We should also make it a habit to obey Gods commandments.

We have scheduled a Financial Workshop for January 24, 2009, to help you determine what things you need to include in your financial plan for 2009.  Our economic situation has also put tremendous strain on our marriage and family relationships, therefore, we have planned a Marriage/Couples Seminar on February 13th and 14th 2009, to help you sharpen your relationship building skills.

Since February is such a busy month for us, we have moved our anniversary celebration to March 2009.  Rather than having a celebration service each Sunday afternoon we will have a celebration week-end, March 20-22, 2009.  It has also come to my attention that too many Christians have failed to discover their purpose.  Therefore, we have planned a series of seminars.  Each person will have his/her own workbook and attend weekly team meetings.  At the end of the 40 day period, each one of us should have a clear understanding of our purpose.  May each of you have a wonderful year as you experience the blessings that God has for you.

May God Bless You,

Pastor James Powell

SAFE NIGHTS PROGRAM

Christian Family Baptist Church is participating once again this winter in the “Safe Nights Program” sponsored by Lifestyles, Inc.  This program is designed to provide shelter and (2) meals a day to homeless individuals and families from October-March.

Here’s how it works:  There are several churches in Charles County also participating in this program.  Each week one of these churches is designated as the “host” church and is responsible for providing a breakfast and a dinner for the guests.  No guest may remain at the “host” church during the day.  After one week, the guests move on to another participating church.

If anyone needs further information about this program they should call Lifestyles, Inc. at:  301-609-9900.

 FIVE SIMPLE WAYS TO

 REDUCE STRESS —

1. Get a good night’s sleep.

2. Eat right.

3. Exercise regularly.

4. Focus on the positive.

5. Organize your space.

And, most importantly — PUT GOD FIRST IN YOUR LIFE!

 Our beliefs

These beliefs are at the heart of all we say and do at Christian Family Baptist Church.  We have included references from the Bible if you would like to study the Biblical basis for these beliefs.

 HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit, sent from God to live inside all who believe in Jesus Christ, teaches, comforts and empowers us, giving each of us diverse gifts fostering unity, Christ-like character and love.

Ephesians 3:16—He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being.

John 14:26—the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will tech you all things.

1 Corinthians 12:7—Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

Galatians  5:22– But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Volunteers are always needed.  Please contact Thonzy Brock or Lawrence Harvey.

"And unto one he gave five talents, to another he gave two, and to another one…”

How many talents have you been given, and how do you use them?

Are they used to glorify His holy name?

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

MY HOPE IS BUILT (THE SOLID ROCK)

Edward Mote (Lyrics) & William B. Bradbury (Music)

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly trust in Jesus’ Name.

Refrain

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness seems to hide His face,
I rest on His unchanging grace.
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

Refrain

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood.
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.

Refrain

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh may I then in Him be found.
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

Refrain
