About CFBC (The Church That Supports the Family in a Wholistic Way)

Christian Family Baptist Church’s  first public Worship Service was held on February 19, 1995, in the Holiday Inn in Waldorf, Maryland. Attendance at this service consisted of family, friends and well-wishers which totaled about 100.  After the first 3 or 4 services, regular weekly attendance ranged between 20-30 worshippers (half of which were located outside the immediate area).  Most of the attendees in the early days were single parent families and led by women.

In the aftermath of the tornado that devastated La Plata, Maryland in 2004, Christian Family Baptist Church (CFBC) coordinated a small "volunteer" army and prepared over 700 meals a day for 3 months.  An Emotional Support Group was formed and we assisted the elderly remove debris from their yards.

For many years, CFBC has been a local resource for the homeless and has provided weekly free meals on numerous occasions to those in need.  In the Winter of 2005, CFBC joined a group of other local churches participating in a winter shelter program for the homeless called "Safe Nights".

CFBC has supported and facilitated an after school program called Positive Action/Youth Connect.  This program's focuses on "at risk" youth (Middle and High School students) to encourage positive thoughts and behaviors.   Local county representatives provide presentations about their role in the community and the students are given the opportunity to attend field trips to local businesses in an effort to help them plan for future careers.

In 2006, we opened our Real Hope Early Learning Center -- a daycare program for 2-4 year olds.  Although the Learning Center had to close its doors, we continue with our vision of helping our youth through The Real Hope Learning Initiative which has established a Life Club and in 2008 we began a partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maryland which is located on our campus.

Our Church is located in the Southern Maryland incorporated Town of La Plata in Charles County.  La Plata is accessible from Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. via US Highway 301 (Crain Highway). La Plata’s population has approximately 9,000 residents.
